Ruby Melton was born in Cameron, Texas and raised in Sacramento,
California by her Mother; she is the fourth of four siblings. Ruby lost her only
brother in 1980 and her second oldest sister in 1984. She has one sibling left.
Ruby was raised in church and accepted Christ at an early age at the
Paradise Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of Dr. Elbert Thames.
In 1973 she received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and was called into the
gospel ministry in 1975. Ruby was raised a P.K.’s Kid (preacher kid) and can
relate to Pastors’ children really well.
Ruby is a member of Calvary Christian Center (South) in Elk Grove, California
and her pastor is Dr. Phillip George Goudeaux. She is a license and ordained

minister. In 2009 she graduated from the School of Ministry and has taught New Membership Classes and the School of Leaders
classes and works on the Prayer Team and is in charge of the Intercessory Prayer. Ruby has her own G-12 Group that meets in her
home once a month called Woman II Woman.
Ruby has a BA in Theology and a Master’s in Christian Counseling from Sacramento Theological Seminary and Bible College in
Sacramento, California and will receive her Doctrine degree in May, 2012. She has taught Christian Education and is currently
teaching The Pentateuch at Sacramento Theological Seminary and Bible College.
Ruby also holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and has her Instructional Permit. Ruby has worked with children since 1980.
She has worked for The City of Sacramento, Parks and Recreation division since July 5, 1988 as a Program Coordinator. She has
touched so many children lives and has received numerous awards and she was presented with the Grandma’s Hands Tribute Award
on April 10, 2010. Ruby has mentored over 500 plus children in her 19 and ½ years with the Park and Recreation Division.
In September 2007 she transferred to The Sacramento City Fire Department and works in Customer Service. She is a certified Fire
Chaplain and loves her job as a people’s person.
On December 24, 2011 she will marry Mr. Cardell C. Portis in Sacramento, California.
